The Lighthouse Reef is an atoll located some 80 km off the coast and is considered one of the most exceptional diving areas in the Caribbean. The reef, which averages between 2 and 6 m in depth and is almost 35 km long and 8 km wide, includes a dozen islands covered mainly with coconut palms, as well as the famous Great Blue Hole, an exceptional natural site which is highly recommended to visit under professional supervision. Some parts of the atoll are protected, but some areas are still poorly supervised, which unfortunately still leads to illegal fishing and tourism.
