Nestled in a beautiful bay bordered by the Cordillera of Merendón, the village of Omoa is a popular stopover for travellers coming from Guatemala or visiting. The location of the hotel was excellent. The room was very clean and it was very clean. However, it is a good introduction to the Caribbean in Honduras (especially if you come from Guatemala). In 1752, the Spanish decided to establish a new port protected by a fortress. The Castillo de San Fernando (in honour of King Ferdinand VI of Spain) had many frustrations before being completed in 1775. In 1779, the British (present in Moskitia, on the Bay Islands and Belize in particular) attacked the Iberian position. On 16 October, the troops of the fort defeated and finally surrendered to the invaders but, in November, a counter-attack schemed British plans to control the entire coast of Nicaragua until Mexico. Then the fort lost its importance, was forgotten and Omoa fell asleep gradually. Naves filled with treasures would say they were reckless, ready to probe the depths of their waters; a loot of gold coins was discovered in 1972.Today, Omoa is a village of quiet and idle fishermen, which could become one of the most pleasant corners of the north coast of the country if the authorities try to butcher the holes of the only street (a paddling pool when it rains), clean the beach… and make it its natural beauty: The hotel was very close to the city centre and it was very close to the beach. San Pedro's inhabitants get there on the weekend, but there is no cat in the week.In short, with some audacity, responsibility and common sense, Omoa would be a small tropical paradise.Today it is a destination to discover but not an inescapable one. In any case, it seems to us to be more pleasant to stay in one of Puerto Cortés's green hotels. The beach is about 2 km from the main road. Hotels and restaurants are on the beach, the fortress in the middle and the Internet near the road (a 15 min walk from the beach).
