Santa Sofia is an elongated village on the banks of the river Bidente. Its historical centre, largely rebuilt after the 1918 earthquake, is nicknamed "Little Florence". Here you can find the clock tower, the municipal palace and the Church of the Cross, dating back to the 16th century, but rebuilt after 1918. Every year in August the Santa Sofia Buskers' festival of street arts takes place. Santa Sofia is also the ideal starting point for hikes in the Apennines, especially to discover the Ridracoli Dam. Not far away, near the town of Corniolo, is the Giardino botanico di Valbonella, which brings together the flora of the Apennines
