Poppi (6,400 inhabitants) is crossed, for its most recent part, by the SR70. The old town, situated at the foot of its castle, is perched on a hill south of the Arno. From the main square, which houses a beautiful hexagonal oratory, the Oratorio della Madonna del Morbo (17th century), you can either reach the castle, the most important building in the village, or follow Via Cavour to the church of San Fedele (12th century). The castle of the Counts Guidi is one of the best preserved medieval buildings in Tuscany. Built in the 12th-13th centuries, it was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio (1245-1310), the architect of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
