In North Tipperary, Garrykennedy is a charming little community nestling on the shores of Lough Derg. It's a town well worth a visit, not least for its setting and its lively pub! On the little port, the Tower House, built in the late 15th century but damaged by Cromwell's troops, still stands up to the elements. Like the boats that seem to have always swung into the harbour, built at the end of the 18th century to transport slate extracted from nearby mines. Today, cruisers regularly stop off here to enjoy the village.
