In the 1940s, the location of the future Laughin was called South Pointe because of its proximity to the southern tip of the state of Nevada. The place, which was still far from being a city, consisted of a motel and a bar that welcomed workers for the Davis Dam. When the work was completed, South Point was quickly deserted. In 1964, Don Laughlin, a wealthy Las Vegas entrepreneur, bought the land and gave his name to the future town he was going to build. Within a few years, the first casino was born. Today, Laughlin is home to 8,000 residents and has become a popular destination for its many casinos.
