Goffs, deserted more than 50 years ago, has only about 20 inhabitants. Founded in the 1860s by pioneers, it prospered thanks to the mines and the railroad, then thanks to the passage of Route 66 until its detour in 1931. Abandoned for many years, it was reinvested by the army during World War II, when General Patton's troops came to prepare in the heart of the Mojave Desert to confront Rommel in Libya. As the old 1914 schoolhouse was transformed into a canteen for soldiers, a military hospital and two air bases were established. Goffs then fell into disrepair again
