A natural and authentic alternative to Isla Contadora. Just across the street, tourism is not very developed. The island was colonized by Gaspar Morales and Francisco Pizarro in 1515. The first inhabitants were Indians who were decimated and the conquistadors brought African slaves to harvest pearls and cultivate the land. The activity is concentrated around a small village where one of the oldest colonial churches in the country is located. The Saboganos live mainly from fishing and tourist activities in Contadora. There are many trails to explore and a dozen beautiful white sand beaches, often deserted.
