Arlon... where the Semois rises and begins its endless journey through southern Luxembourg. The capital of this rural province has a population of just 28,000. The town is firmly anchored in the orbit of the neighboring Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Just look at the congestion on the roads and freeways leading to the Grand Duchy, a vast reservoir of jobs, every weekday morning... Or the daily rush on the Arlon-Luxembourg railroad line. Yet Arlon has its own history, folklore, lifestyles, recipes and aspirations. And a growing tourist influence, even if it was long overshadowed by its neighbors Bouillon, Florenville and Bastogne. In the surrounding area. Near Arlon, visit the ruins of Clairefontaine Abbey (13th century), home to the mausoleum of Princess Ermesinde, Countess of Luxembourg. In Guirsch, the choir of Saint-Willibrord church dates back to 1520. In Heckbous (Guirsch), the Saint-Aubain chapel houses polychrome wooden statues from the 15th and 16th centuries. And in Autelbas, the superb 14th-century castle-farm. It's the only example of lowland military architecture in southern Luxembourg.
