A working-class town whose last mine closed in 1989, Beringen owes its reputation to its unique coal-mining mecca. The industrial heart has been preserved. Today, this town of almost 40,000 inhabitants offers an interactive cultural tour, as well as outdoor activities at the adventure park located on the slag heap. The town also boasts a unique diving site, a 6,200m2 former colliery decanter, which sinks to a depth of 10 metres and has a diameter of 43 metres! A tropical marine environment with fish and plants has been recreated. For more information, visit www.todi.be.
