Located opposite Nausori, Bau is a tiny island made up of 3 main villages: Bau, Lasakau and Soso. Points of interest include Fiji's oldest church and a stone on which cannibals used to crush the skulls of their victims. Bau is known as the origin of the most widely spoken Fijian dialect: Bauan. Many of Fiji's chiefs came from Bau, and the island's power far surpassed its small size. To visit Bau, you need to obtain an invitation from the island's chief, and as usual, don't forget to bring a gift to thank him for his hospitality.
