The remote village of Nabalasere may well be home to the country's most spectacular waterfall. And to discover it, you have to get up early! It's a day trip from Suva with Talanoa Treks, or you can choose to drive your own vehicle. However, it's best to have a 4x4 to cover the steep, undeveloped road. Indeed, you'll need to take the Kings Road to reach Nalawa (just beyond Korovou, further south), and to reach Nabalasere at the end of the road, you'll need to be equipped! Well-preserved, verdant and well-maintained (the village has even won an award as "Fiji's most well-kept village"), Nabalasere has not had the happiest of days in recent years. Devastated by Cyclone Winston in February 2016, the village lost 25 of its 30 houses. It was then that all the inhabitants united to face up to the difficulties encountered, and a little over a year later, in June 2017, work began again on the construction of an ecological trail. For beyond the beautiful gardens and mint-green houses, people come to this little village above all to discover the ecotourism forest park. Financed by the Global Environment Facility as part of the Fiji Forest Management Project, this is an extraordinary site featuring a unique waterfall, stretching almost 70 metres into a wild, unspoilt jungle.
