Adjacent to Cheltenham, Gloucester was built on the River Severn, a stone's throw from the Welsh border. Pleasant for its docks and a few medieval relics, Gloucester is especially popular for its superb cathedral, one of the finest in the country. Also worth a visit is Gloucester's largest dockside warehouse, the imposing red-brick Llanthony, built in 1873. It houses a museum dedicated to British waterways. Also worth a visit is the Folk of Gloucester, nestled in a superb series of 16th-17th century half-timbered buildings, the museum traces Gloucestershire's crafts and industries back to 1500.
