Styrsö is an unspoiled island with all the amenities of city life. Until the 19th century, it was not open to tourism, but dedicated to the fishing industry, as a herring salting and processing plant was in full operation. In the 1830s, the first guesthouse was established and a small seaside resort was created. In 1867, the first steamboats to reach the island were inaugurated. The large parks and the beautiful summer villas of the island are the testimony of this time. Today, it is a seaside resort very appreciated for its beaches and its fishing traditions still alive.
