Hisingen is a large island north of Gothenburg to which it is connected by two bridges. It is the fifth largest island in Sweden with 199 km² of surface. It is above all the industrial area of Gothenburg since it is the seat of a large number of companies, like Volvo and SKF. It is mainly in the Lindholmen district that all these companies are concentrated, near the University of High Technology. But Hisingen is not without its tourist attractions, far from it... You can enjoy the Volvo and Aeroseum museums and take a walk to the top of Ramberget hill, where the view over Gothenburg is exceptional. You will also love to stroll along Eriksberg, a seaside promenade where restaurants and bars abound. The city's urbanization policy in the 1980s was quite similar to that of large French cities: the immigrant population was primarily housed in the suburbs, in housing projects. However, efforts are being made to better integrate these communities. Thus, in 2011, the first mosque in Gothenburg was built in Hisingen, where the majority of the city's Muslim population lives.
