Before arriving in Frederikshavn, you can stop in this small and very picturesque seaside village with its low houses from the beginning of the 18th century, its harbor and its marina. Every summer evening, at 9 pm, the Dannebrog is hoisted on the harbor to the sound of a bugle. Visitors stop by to see the church of the former Carmelite convent, decorated with ancient frescoes depicting passages from the Old and New Testaments. Here was born a Danish architect, very famous in the XIXᵉ century: Sophus Frederik Kühnel. The latter worked mainly in the city of Aarhus. His historicist work was inspired by the Renaissance and the Gothic.
