A dynamic and friendly city. On one side, the merchant port with its multicolored facades, on the other side, the port where travelers dock, near the old green fort of Skansin, whose buildings are still covered with bushy grass. Then the modern city rises on the hills. The bus from the airport slowly descends towards the sea, letting you see the gardens of the houses with their typical architecture. You will soon feel like walking through the narrow streets of the old town where strange black wooden huts are still used as larders to dry meat and fish. The capital then appears with all its attributes: the historical district where the governmental administration is located, the small Parliament, the banks and the stores, a little further the public garden, the theater... So many promises of strolls and discoveries in a strange calm: here, one lives very little outside, habit of the long night winters. We cross some inhabitants who say hello to each other systematically or almost. Outside the opening hours of the stores, only the tourists seem to take pleasure in walking in this terribly exotic world. But in recent years, nightlife has changed... The quota of licenses to sell alcohol has allowed several bars, restaurants and discos to open their doors. Young Faroese and, in general, all those who have had the opportunity to study or work in Denmark, aspire to live in a capital that is more open to the world today.
