Named after the Greek poet, this small town of 2,600 people is best known for Lake Claiborne State Park, located just a stone's throw away. But the town itself is also home to a few points of interest that are worth a visit, including its Herbert S. Ford Museum, which provides a glimpse into the history, heritage, culture and arts of the Hill Country. Just across the street is the Claiborne Parish Courthouse, with its Greek Revival architecture. It is one of only four courthouses in Louisiana dating from before the Civil War that are still in operation.
