Other park, other beauties! Here, at the western end of the Kenai Peninsula, it is a sumptuous mixture of forests, mountains, glaciers which shelters one of the densest populations of bears in Alaska. Homer is the closest town and the starting point for various excursions, just across the road. Like many other parks in Alaska, Kachemak Bay State Park is only accessible by air or sea. Hiking trails exist and it is possible to camp, but the infrastructure is rudimentary and you must be self-sufficient in food and water. The easiest way is to leave from Seldovia or to go by day with an agency.
