Located across from the town of Homer in a planted arm of Kachemak Bay State Park, Seldovia is at the tip of the Kenai Peninsula. This village offers a picturesque landscape of colorful roofed houses on stilts and is surrounded by beautiful nature. It was founded in the late 18th century when a Russian named Aleksandrovskaia settled here to trade his furs. A large population of natives is settled here, composed of two tribes: the Dena'ina Indians and Suspiaq Eskimo. Once a popular shipping bridge from Seward, Kodiak and other Cook Gulf villages, Seldovia's population dropped from 2,000 to 300 with the development of roads in Alaska over the 20th century. Today, it is a sleepy little village popular with tourists who come to hike, fish, pick wild berries and kayak. You can also stay here.
