Travel Guide Dos Pilas

Located southwest of Sayaxche, Dos Pilas is set in a tropical rainforest declared a protected area. The city, which seems to have been governed by rulers at war with the main cities of the region, is worth a visit for its sculptures and, above all, its masterly staircase, decorated with well-preserved hieroglyphs. In addition, several caves have been discovered in the area, such as the Cueva del Duende, the Cueva de la Sangre and the Cueva del Murciélago.
