This park, which is between 300 and 1 450 m above sea level, is not part of the «Route des Fleurs», but is nearby, between the municipalities of San Francisco Menéndez and Tacuba. With an area of 3 794 ha, it is home to the country's largest biodiversity, a threatened ecosystem that is urgently needed to preserve: 400 species of flowers identified, several types of vegetation, 282 bird species - especially between April and June - more than 100 native species of mammals and not far from 600 species of butterflies! The average temperature is 22 to 35 ° C throughout the year. It rains mainly in August and September. Zancudos (ferocious big mosquitoes) nuisance the walker.Three campsites, several trails (the very pleasant Cerro El León, 8 km long, which leads to a breathtaking panorama of the park; or that which leads to Piedra Sellada, about 10 km long, possibility of bathing at the lieudit Los Enganches; or the Cerro de la Olla, at 5 hours walk), formidable viewpoints and explanations about traditional fauna, flora and resources make this park a mandatory stop for any lover of nature. You can also discover the archaeological site of Piedra Sellada (rock art) or the Cueva del Altillo (which, because of its dry climate, has been able to preserve organic organic foods). One of our favorite corners in El Salvador.Access is not easy, however: leave to the Salvador Salvanatura Ecological Foundation.
