Perched on a limestone spur, the village of Posada offers sumptuous views over the plain and the cove of Su Tiriarzu. Its colourful houses stand out against the green of the mountains, its narrow streets bear witness to a rich and tormented history dating back to ancient times. A statue of Hercules found in the village attests to the presence of an Etruscan village as early as the5th century BC. Pope Urban II mentions the village in an official document in 1095. The 13th-century castle overlooking Posada served as a residence for judges during the Judicat period. Its decline began in the 14th century when the Saracens increased their raids.
