To the north and east of Cuenca lies a mountainous territory crossed by steep gorges. Among the most interesting sites arethe Ciudad Encatada or "Enchanted City", where erosion has created fantastic landscapes - with stones that rise to the sky - and the waterfalls of the Cuervo River, a tributary of the Guadiela, whose source is a natural monument. To the north of the Serranía is a spectacular natural canyon, the Hoz de Beteta, with about six kilometers of cliffs over 80 meters high, carved into the rock by the Gualiela River, which can be admired from the San Miguel de las Victorias Convent.
