Clinging to the top of a rocky promontory and defended by walls and towers, this town lives from its wine production, the most important in the Valencian Community. Every year, the grape harvest festival is celebrated with great pomp. Its historic heart, "La Villa", has been declared a historical and artistic monumental site, showing that it was a strategic place in the Middle Ages. Its narrow streets, its towers and its castle as well as the district of La Villa are the witnesses of its past. Examples of medieval architecture such as the Palace of the Cid or the Gothic churches of San Salvador or San Nicolás are worth seeing. Most of the monuments are concentrated in the medieval center. A thirty-four point tour will take you through squares, beautiful churches such as Santa María or San Nicolás, and a network of alleys and viewpoints. It is truly a city within a city with the sensation of being in a village a thousand miles from a city. Tourist Office: Calle de García Montés, s/n (https://www.requena.es). From the city, you can also follow a wine trail that runs through the Requena-Utiel wine region, organized by ten municipalities (accommodation, gastronomy, visits to wineries, etc.). Information: www.rutavino.com. This city also offers the opportunity to relax and enjoy a pleasant stay in the spa of Fuente Podrida. It is located 30 kilometers from the town, in a beautiful natural area of ecological interest.
