The first historical event that marked Tuoro sul Trasimeno was the Battle of Trasimeno (21 June 217 BC) when Hannibal's Carthaginian army destroyed the Roman army. During the Middle Ages, the town was the object of various conflicts, due to its strategic position. In the 16th century Tuoro sul Trasimeno was included in the Papal States and finally experienced a period of peace. Situated on a hill (309 m above sea level) overlooking the lake, this town of about 4,000 inhabitants offers peace and quiet. A 10 km long route through the town highlights various strategic and historical places from its eventful past.
