The community of communes of Pouilly-en-Auxois - Bligny-sur-Ouche comprises 47 communes. Among them, of course, is the commune of Bligny-sur-Ouche. It lies between the Ouche valley, the Auxois and the Hautes-Côtes, in a superb bucolic setting combining wooded hills and lush green meadows bordered by the Ouche river. In fact, it's nicknamed the "Switzerland of Burgundy"! With such natural assets, it's obvious that hikers will have a field day with the various trails on offer. But you can also admire the landscape from a TGV... Train à Grande Vibration rather than a high-speed train, as the commune is proud to have benefited, in order of appearance, from France's third railroad line. It linked Epinac to Pont-d'Ouche. Today, enthusiasts maintain the line and run old steam and diesel locomotives to the delight of young and old alike. The commune also boasts a rich heritage, with twelve mills along the Ouche, the oldest of which dates back to the 13th century. As for its coat of arms, it bears the symbols of Bligny: fortifications and towers as a crown, ears of wheat and hemp flowers as a collar (the town's two main products), and a red shield embellished with a bow and arrow, symbols of the local brotherhood of Saint-Sébastien, a company of archers that guarded Bligny's walls from the 13th century onwards.
