Mullingar is the main town in the county of Westmeath. It is famous for its pewter production. In fact, you will see a large sculpture of "Pilgrims" in the city center. It is also one of the few cities, apart from Dublin, that James Joyce visited. In 1900, he met his father, a civil servant in Mullingar. The Joyces lived in Levington Park House, near Lough Owel. The town is mentioned in several books: Stephen the Hero (the Greville Arms Hotel is mentioned), Ulysses and Finnegans Wake. Finally, Mullingar is also the birthplace of Joe Dolan and Niall Horan of the band One Direction.
