The microscopic island of Madivaru has become large following the construction of a resort. The demand from hotel groups is pressing in the North Malé atoll and now sand has to be taken from the bottom of the ocean to enlarge or build islands from scratch. Concrete dykes have been built to protect the artificial bays, which although they are pretty, are not at all representative of Maldivian beaches. The island has been occupied by the VARU by Atmosphere resort since October 2019. The 4* resort is somewhat lacking in charm. The villas come in the form of angular cubes, with certainly well thought out amenities, but a bit simplistic. The island needs a little more time to see its vegetation grow, which will provide even more privacy between the villas and the common areas. VARU operates on an all-inclusive basis, which includes meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, loan of snorkeling equipment and free non-motorized water sports. And for those who stay 4 nights or more, you can enjoy excursions, sunset fishing, a personalized massage or a meal in an à la carte restaurant for free.
