Megamaage, "the land of the Mi'kmaq", was the first name given to the town of Miramichi by this people. It is located almost halfway between Caraquet and Shediac, along the Acadian coastline. It is here that the Miramichi River Route begins, a 180 km long scenic drive to Fredericton on Route 8, crossing the central lands of the province from west to east. From bridge to bridge, from river to river, notably the Naswaak and Miramichi rivers which are popular with salmon fishermen, you will pass through charming towns such as Boiestown where you can visit the Central New Brunswick Lumberjack Museum.
