An island in the history of the Acadians of New Brunswick. It was on this piece of land that was born in the middle of the Miramichi River, and at the point Wilsons, that the Acadians found refuge during the Deportation from 1756 to 1760, under the direction of Charles Deschamps de Boishébert. It also kept the imprint of the largest shipyard in New Brunswick, operated by British settlers, mainly from Scotland and Ireland. Before them, the French Jacques Cartier laid the foot on this ancient Micmac land. They negotiated the fur trade and the installation of desks. Today, historical visits are organized in this rather emblematic place.
