This small community of a few hundred souls was named after the5th Earl of Cardigan, James Brudenell, who later became the Duke of Monague. Located on the banks of the Cardigan River, it lives mainly from industry and fishing, especially mussels, clams and lobster. There are a few restaurants here that offer these delicacies, including one that makes the famous "Lobster Suppers". Nearby is Brudenell River Provincial Park, which offers outdoor activities and camping. Note that Cardigan became part of the Municipality of Three Rivers in September 2018.
