Trim is the traditional capital of County Meath (the administrative capital is Navan). It was the seat of the Anglo-Norman parliament in the 15th century, and the town is nowadays known for its castle which can be visited. It must be said that the building is nestled in a fabulous natural setting. Overlooking the town, Trim Castle is truly the jewel in the crown of County Meath, especially because it has a breathtaking view of the Boyne. And it is this superb setting that was chosen to host part of the filming of the mythical movie Braveheart (1995) with Mel Gibson. In any case, this is a site that is worth a visit.
