In the 1960s, falling cocoa prices bankrupted the village's plantations, and nature soon reclaimed its rights. Cocoa is still grown here, and French dialect is still spoken. The community living here is developing ecotourism, thanks in particular to the Asa Wright Center and the Brasso Seco Paria center, which offers accommodation and activities. This is where it rains the most in Trinidad, and why the forest is the densest and greenest. Here you can observe brightly plumaged birds such as the Piping Guan (Pawi), a species endemic to this forest, passerines, superb toucans, orioles, manakins...
