This small town is located about 16 km from Temuco. Its name is not insignificant and testifies to the turbulent past of the region: during the Araucanian War, at the end of the 19th century, the settlers built a fort called Cholchol, determined to subdue the indigenous population, the name has remained, and so have the Mapuches. Today, it is the anchor of the Chol Chol Foundation, an organization that contributes to sustainable human development among the Mapuche people. It is the project of the American James Ward Mundell, who died in 1997, but whose legacy is still very much alive. You can admire traditional houses and buy handicrafts
