This deep valley, located some 25 km southeast of Santiago, is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the immediate vicinity of the capital. It is the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle and constant noise of the capital. The road follows the course of the Maipo River and its green banks contrast with the aridity of the mountain range in this area. Numerous small restaurants line the road and invite you to discover the local gastronomy with its many artisanal dishes (the empanadas are traditionally cooked in a clay oven). Cajon del Maipo is the green lung of Santiago and offers a lot of sensational activities as well as many options for quiet and contemplative discoveries. On the banks of the river there are many campsites and inns that offer the possibility of staying a few days in the valley. There are many activities to enjoy: hiking, thermal baths, skiing (between June and October), rafting (class III between November and March), horseback riding and bungee jumping. The mountaineers will climb the Mirador del Morado (4,320 meters), the San Francisco Glacier (4,320 meters) and El Morado (5,060 meters, a very difficult climb) and will be able to contemplate an unforgettable panorama of the Andean mountains.
