The trout capital! People come from all over the country to fish in the immediate surroundings and especially to enjoy the deliciously cooked fish: it's fresh and local to say the least! Its creation dates back to 1883, making it the oldest city in the province. It was established after long conflicts between settlers and Mapuche people and nowadays it displays a sweet ostensible mix of Catholic and Mapuche traditions. An excellent gateway to discover the Lanin National Park, Junin is also a haven for mountaineers and hikers who will walk through the foothills of the small Andean town, especially those of the Lanin volcano.
