This small town is located at the confluence of the Rio Nireguao and the Rio Maniguales, less than 100 km from Coyhaique. It was founded by settlers in the 1930s and owes its name to the mañio, a conifer endemic to Chilean rainforests. It is crossed by the Route Austral and is bordered by rivers and natural reserves. You can spend a night here and go hiking in the Villa Manihuanes National Reserve. The village is also close to a zinc gold mine, named El Toqui, owned by Belgium. If you want to take a fishing break in the Manihuales River, visit the Lavanderas Natural Park.
