Situated between Mulhouse and Belfort, Dannemarie is the administrative center of a canton that became part of Altkirch in 1870. The first mention of the town dates back to 823, under the name Domnamarie. Dannemarie belonged to the Counts of Ferrette, then, until 1648, to the Habsburgs and finally to the Dukes of Mazarin. Conveniently located close to the Rhone-Rhine Canal and the Eurovéloroute, Dannemarie has always been a commercial town, and has preserved some remarkable houses and buildings. Today, Dannemarie is an attractive, dynamic town that hosts a wide range of events and boasts all the infrastructures needed for its inhabitants to flourish.
