This city of 7,000 inhabitants, bathed by the waters of the Paraná River, was once located in the middle of the land. The rise of the waters (to feed the Yacyretá dam), has made it a real peninsula. The development of the Costanera then transformed it into a seaside resort, with three sandy beaches: Playa Tacuary, Playa Pirayú and Playa Yvyku'i. Tacuary, is the most central and popular beach. It feels as if we are in front of a real sea, so vast is the river. Pirayú, from the Guarani name of this enormous fish that is the dorado, is more quiet. Finally, Playa Yvyku'i was not allowed to swim in early 2020. The city has a dozen posadas turísticas and a few restaurants. Encarnación is a 20 minute drive (35 km) away and can be easily reached by car or bus via Ruta 1.Carmen del Paraná is nicknamed the "Capital of Rice" because it is home to the country's largest factories for husking, washing and packing rice. On the other hand, they are no longer produced on site, as the crops have been submerged by the waters of the Paraná River.
