Located on the banks of the Río Luján, founded in the first half of the 17th century, it is one of the oldest towns in the region. Today it has almost 80,000 inhabitants and is a pleasant stopover. Don't miss the Plaza Belgrano and its imposing neo-Gothic basilica. Today the city is a very important place of pilgrimage as it is here that Nuestra Señora de Luján, the patron saint of Argentina, also known as the Virgencita, is venerated. Every year, on the first weekend of October, a pilgrimage carrying a statue of the Virgin Mary to the basilica gathers thousands of faithful, some of whom arrive on foot from Buenos Aires.
