Located between 1,300 and 2,000 metres above sea level, within the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park, this nature reserve was created in 1980 to preserve the extraordinary variety of flora and fauna of the Apuan Alps. Various walks are offered (from 1 to 4 hours), but you can also go for several days and camp there. You will certainly come across deer, mouflons, roe deer, golden eagles, squirrels, and many other animal species. 20 km north of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, following the SP-47 towards Corfino. From June to September there is a reception office in San Romano in Garfagnana (www.parcoappennino.it).
