Located on the Ruta Nacional 152, the Parque Nacional Lihué Calel is the southern part of the Argentine pampas. This park, created in 1977, is a rocky massif of volcanic origin at an altitude of 600 m, 200 million years old and stretches over nearly 9,900 ha. It offers some beautiful surprises to travellers who will take the trouble to go there. One can visit the rock caves decorated by the ancestors of the indigenous populations who lived here in prehistoric times, at the time of the "late rock art", dating back 2,000 years. It is also possible to climb the Mount of the Sociedad Cientifica (590 m) to get a panoramic view of the pampas.
