Anaheim is the birthplace of Walter Elias Disney's first theme park. The idea came to him while watching his daughters play on the carousel in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. His goal: to create a new type of park, where children and parents could have fun together. His dream became reality on July 17, 1955. Today, the first park - simply named Disneyland Park - brings together all the timeless attractions inherited from the Disney universe, around nine fantastic worlds: Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Adventureland, Critter Country, Frontierland, Main Street U.S.A., Mickey's Toontown and New Orleans Square. The second, Disney California Adventure Park, opened in 2001, is a magical tribute to California and the explorers, conquistadors, entrepreneurs, aviators and dreamers who have contributed to the Golden State's success and renown.Anaheim is also famous for its professional ice hockey team, the Anaheim Ducks, founded in 1993 by... the Walt Disney Company, under the name Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. A nod to the film The Mighty Ducks - Les Petits Champions (1992) - in which 12-year-olds, always losers, are transformed into ice hockey champions. The team was sold to Susan and Henry Samueli in 2005, who renamed it the Anaheim Ducks.
