Not really a tourist destination, this town is nonetheless worth a mention for several reasons. First, it's the seat of Orange County. Secondly, it's home to John Wayne Airport, which serves all major U.S. cities: you may find yourself passing through on your way to Las Vegas, Phoenix or Salt Lake City. Finally, Santa Ana is home to the Bowers Museum, a beautiful museum on Main Street. On display are some 120,000 pieces of Mesoamerican, Amerindian, African and Asian art. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm. It costs US$18 per adult and takes half a day.
