The ancient city of Tamiat quickly lost its importance and regained its lustre in 1218 when it was taken by King John of Jerusalem. In 1221, the Crusaders had to leave. Saint Louis, in 1249, made it fall, but was forced to give it back after his capture during the battle of Mansourah. The city is known today for the quality of the woodwork that is carried out by many factories. The first pieces of furniture came out in the 19th century, in response to the demand for copies of 18th century French furniture, but today it is to a more varied order book that the masters respond.
