Southeast of Tambacounda and northwest of Kédougou. Mako is both a small village with a pleasant market and a nice place to spend a night on the banks of the Gambia River. In the early morning, you might even be lucky enough to see some big hippos. The region is also famous for its gold mines, of which the one in Mako has exceeded all expectations, with a production of more than 155,000 ounces of gold in 2019. From Tambacounda, transporters will surely agree to drop you off in Mako, especially since the road crossing the Niokolo Koba is now in good condition. From Kédougou, 7-seater taxis also make the trip.
