In Africa, every place with a history often draws it from a legend. It is said that in the Tantou Valley there was a hut that contained all the belongings of the deceased who had no legal heirs. When asked why he was coming, a man said in Arabic: "I am going to visit Baitoul-Mali", in other words "the hut of all the goods". Thus, those who heard it took Baitoul-Mali for the name of the region. Today, Baitoul has disappeared and Mali has remained. The town is the highest commune in Guinea with an altitude of 1,400 m and the temperatures are the coldest there, often less than 10°C in December.
