Naalehu is a town without any tourist interest but it is a good place to visit the nearby Volcanoes Park. The town is also a few minutes away from the famous black and green sand beaches. Its name 'Naalehu' means 'volcanic ash' in Hawaiian, because of its volcanic origin, the crater being only a few kilometers away. Fortunately, the ashes have since been covered by a beautiful lush vegetation, complemented by the bright colors of the storefronts. Finally, the city has the originality of being the southernmost city of the Hawaiian archipelago and of the United States in general.
