At mile 12, we arrive at the village of Kealakekua, anchored on the heights, surrounded by fields of coffee trees. It is mostly known for its sublime bay of the same name, one of the best snorkeling spots on the island, although it is accessible via the village of Captain Cook which is much closer. Kealakekua is however a good base to visit the area and charming accommodations with ocean views and good value for money abound. There are many hippie-like places to shop, have a good coffee or a good burger, usually accompanied by a karaoke night or a game of pool
